Lou Groza football is about more than just the game. We are dedicated to building qualities in these young men and women that will help them to become not only great players, but we want them to become great human beings, people who will become assets to our communities , and who will make a difference in the world. Some of the character traits we emphasize are teamwork, responsibility and hard work. One of our players has taken initiative to help the global community in a very noteworthy way. Heres a letter from his mom with ways you can help: Hello All Football Families and Friends, My name is Michele Titus and my son is Joshua Titus. Joshua is 9 years old now and plays tackle football for Lou Groza in Berea, Ohio. Joshua was watching TV 4 years ago, and an ad came up about helping starving children in Africa. My son Joshua said to me Mommy, how can we help them? I want to help them. They look so sad. We were sitting in the living room where we keep all of our shoes. He came up with the idea, LETS SEND THEM OUR SHOES MOM! Can we send them our shoes? None of those kids have shoes and we have PLENTY OF SHOES! I told him I would look into it and see how we could do that. The NEXT MORNING the Today show was auctioning off celebrity shoes to raise money for Soles4Souls. The rest is history. Joshua has been having a shoe drive every year since. The first year he collected over 2,000 pairs of shoes! He made a world of difference globally by being productive locally. This year Joshua is blowing the roof off his collection efforts in order to earn a mission trip for him to go to Costa Rica and give the shoes he has collected for four years to poor and needy families there. He wants to see how what he does makes a difference. For him to earn his trip he needs to collect over 35,000 pairs of shoes! Please help him reach his goal. Call all of your family and friends ask them to bring all of their old shoes to you. Then bring them to any football game this season that U9 Browns plays. Anytime there is a football game at the Lou Groza field in Berea we will have collection boxes set up. * Dates of the drive are August 20th until November 30th *Over 300 million children worldwide are without shoes *Millions of these children are orphans. Together we can make a difference. Please donate any old or unwanted shoes, flip flops, water shoes, boots, ANY SHOE! *Shoes help prevent the spread of parasitic diseases that plague over 1.4 billion people all over the world. *There are so many dangers associated with bare feet in developing countries. Some are puncture wounds, constant cuts and scrapes go unattended and become infected lead to amputations or even death. *Soles4souls takes all of our old shoes cleans them and sends them to orphanages and distribution centers to over 127 countries all over the world. 40% of the donated shoes go to families in need in USA. *This is also a great to recycle old shoes. Keep your old shoes from landfills. *Simply bring in your old shoes and drop them in the donation box thats all you have to do. WE WANT YOUR OLD DIRTY SMELLY SHOES, MENS, WOMENS, CHILDRENS, HIGH HEELS EVEN FLIP FLOPS!
