Love him or hate him, Nero is extremely powerful. After watchin a lets play of DMC4 i just thought of something. DMC4 takes place several years after the events of the first game, in which Vergil dies. A popular thought is that Nero is the son of Vergil, and his ability to use the Yamato, plus the giant that appears over him during devil trigger resembles Vergils Sparda form, Nelo Angelo. But what if Nero was the REINCARNATION of Vergil? They both have similar ideals, wanting power to protect their loved ones, though Vergil went about it wrong. In the scene when Neros DT activates he says And on that day, my arm changed, and a voice echoed... Power... give me more... power... and if i become a demon, i will endure the exile... anything, to protect her These words are extremely familiar to what Vergil says. Vergil wanted power to protect those he loved, and eventually lost, his mother. Now for a little extra proof. When Dante activates his Devil triger in DMC4 he turns into a red glowing demon and his arms look similar to Neros, only red. Over the years Dantes demon form has changed dramatically, eventually ending in the form we now have. What if the arm Nero is cursed/blessed with is Vergils Devil Trigger manifesting only partially the way it would if Vergils old body had continued to live, but because its Neros body only the arm changed in response to the demand of power, and because Nero has no real control over his demonic power at the time of the change he couldnt turn it off, thus explaining why, without having devil trigger active, he had strength that surprised Dante, even forcing Dante to flash his own devil trigger form as Nero beats his face in during one of the opening scenes. So i ask again, what if Ner is the reincarnation of Vergil, thus having all the same powers. This would also explaine why the Yamato fixed itself in Neros time of need and in response to his new demand of power, and why it conjures Nelo Angelo over him during Devil Trigger. Maybe Yamato is forcing Vergils soul out of Neros body to help him fight, and thats why the soul wields Yamato during Devil Trigger, not Nero, because the sword is veing wielded by its true master.
