Lucian Freud, the renowned British artist, died two years ago today (July 20, 201) at the age of 89. Born in Berlin, he was the grandson of Sigmund Freud. A BBC Two documentary in 2012, Lucian Freud: Private Life, included interviews with family, friends and others. But surely a more revealing movie or TV show can be made. Maybe even a TV series, since he had two wives, many mistresses and was the father of more than a dozen children. (One estimate was about 40 children.) His first wife, Kathleen (Kitty) Epstein, was the daughter of sculptor Jacob Epstein. They had two daughters before they divorced. His second wife was the beautiful Lady Caroline Blackwood, whose mother was the brewery heiress Maureen Guinness. They divorced. Children from his mistresses include Susie Boyt (novelist), Jane Freud (artist), Paul Freud (artist), Bella Freud (fashion designer), Esther Freud (writer) and Frank Paul (artist). Model Kate Moss has on her back two small tattoos made by Lucian Freud. Though Jewish, Lucian Freud is buried in London’s famous Highgate Cemetery. The movie could start there.
