Lyrics are a funny thing... they can mean something to the author and have a totally different reference in someone life. I didnt know who Elton John was at 15 years old. One of my best friends Efrain Gonzalez used to say you, you are so great you will be like Elton. Who is Elton John? Well he showed me... Im still standing was a hit that school year and he explained. Efrain (Fay) was fatally shot in Puerto Rico I later learned in some form of altercation. : ( I used to love the way he looked at me. Later being a 17y/o living in Bridgeport Connecticut I worked at a Deli, it was called My Mothers Place Deli... my co worker introduced me to way more music. Although we used to clean and organize the meats jamming to Led Zeppelin, Eagles and other CRAZY classic rock bands... me singing/yelling along. My co-worker again said you are great you will be like Elton John... HONOR! I was never an Elton John fan until I fell in love for the first time. At 21, the love of my life Todd and I had a secretive relationship, partly because he was in the ARMY and I was a major singing sensation in TX. One of our Love soundtracks beside John Secadas first LP was Elton Johns The Greatest Hits which featured his 1970s collection. Among all of his great tunes Someone saved my life tonight has significant meaning to us as we lived that very story. In 1999 Todd committed suicide. : ( My heart. We were not together as we were both in different relationships and living in different cities, but we had affairs together still. Someone saved my life tonight took a totally different meaning. BIG TIME. We all know the LION KING soundtrack and his many hits since... Also the re-highlighting of his jewel song Tiny Dancer on that ALMOST FAMOUS movie. Isnt that song just too much??? Anyway, I later read his biography to learn... Whoa, I am not going to be like him. I AM LIKE HIM. Still look up to him and HE IS ONE OF THE BEST! Hes helped George Michael, he has fought AIDS relentlessly and we all forget that he without fear substituted LIDO in one of the biggest performances of EMINEMs career.
