MADMAN AT THE BINIBINING PILIPINAS. Attended last nights - TopicsExpress

MADMAN AT THE BINIBINING PILIPINAS. Attended last nights Binibining Pilipinas pageant, a totally new experience for me. Whilst I was expecting to see considerable formality for an event that celebrates Filipina beauty, poise and elegance, I was pleasantly surprised to be engulfed in festivity and an atmosphere that I can only describe as a cross between a soccer world cup finals, a cockfight and a beatles concert. Anne Curtis got it right, it was a celebration of woman and beki power. The production numbers were impressive and as expected, all the candidates were gorgeous and talented. I did not envy the judges at all, it must have been a very difficult task trying to judge such a talented batch of ladies while at the same time hearing the very determined and cacophonic screams of of legions of supporters coming from ringside all the way up to general admission. Man oh man....airhorns, whistles, large tarp banners and an assortment of cheers mostly of candidates numbers (# namber thirty nayn! # namber twenty tuuuuuu!) and candidates names (Ayzzaaaaaaaa!). Despite the very passionate atmosphere that evening, there was no jeering or booing. Sport lang talaga. I had 3 friends competing that night : broadcaster Carla Lizardo of PTV-4, Angelique De Leon and Aiza Faeldona. Although neither of them got into the top 15, the quality of competition was such that anybody could have had their number called. In closing, this was a great learning experience with yours truly picking up some useful event ideas and gaining a better understanding of production values. My thanks to Ms. Genevieve Corneta for sponsoring my ticket.
