MAINTENANCE MANAGER OPENING Founded in 1957, Columbia Forest Products is North America’s largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and hardwood veneer products. Columbia’s decorative interior veneers and panels are used in high-end cabinetry, fine furniture, architectural millwork and commercial fixtures. Columbia’s products are sold through a network of wholesale distributors, mass merchandisers and original equipment manufacturers from three distinct business units: plywood, veneer and global services. Position Purpose: Supervise the maintenance functions, plant support maintenance (both electrical and mechanical), boiler operations, and mobile equipment maintenance by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Key Responsibilities: 1. Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations. 2. Directs maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations. 3. Develops preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff. Places high priority on timely response to equipment breakdowns. 4. Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment. 5. Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. 6. Monitor maintenance purchasing to maintain repair parts inventory at an adequate level without overstocking. 7. Recruit, hire, train and direct maintenance crew with an object of constantly upgrading the quality and professionalism of work performed and personnel involved. Provide cross-training to facilitate coverage during personnel shortages or emergencies. 8. Respond to employee concerns, questions, and ideas. Serve as a coach for employees, enabling employee to achieve maximum potential. 9. Assist in preparation of department budget and monitor expenditure of funds in budget. 10. Responsible for all EPA air , water permits and reporting. Customers Served: Employees, Supervisors, Managers Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: • Basic knowledge of the entire process for manufacturing hardwood veneer or plywood. • Detailed knowledge of process equipment. • Technical skills to include mechanical, electrical, electronics. • Basic knowledgeable of wood species and production requirements. • Problem-solving skills. • Ability to handle multiple tasks. • Minimal travel required. • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels. • Ability to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. • Ability to interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems. • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees. • Basic computer literacy - word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail. Education/Licensure: Degree in engineering (Electrical & Mechanical) with at least five years experience or the equivalent sufficient Experience: At least Five years experience. Work Environment: Works in a plant environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and production equipment. Performance Standards: 1. Quality: Responsible for promoting and maintaining quality of workmanship and for ensuring that quality is taught to all employees 2. Responsibility for errors: Responsibility for department/shift maintenance and therefore will assume responsibility for errors in maintenance, downtime, safety, costs. 3.
