MANGO Family: ANACARDIACEAE Botanical name: Magnifera indica English: Mango Igbo: Mangolo Hausa: Mangwaro Yoruba: Mangoro Description: Mango is a tree of about 30m tall with pronounced straight bole carrying a heavy crown; it is cultivated for its fruits in many tropical and sub-tropical parts of the world where the climate is right. The tree is planted throughout the Western region. It also makes an excellent shade and avenue tree if grown from seed. The dense canopy persists in the dry season and shades out undergrowth so that an avenue planting becomes a good firebreak.
