MANITOWOC — Police on Thursday evening surrounded a house in the 1200 block of South 12th Street and arrested a 31-year-old man who had allegedly been pointing a shotgun at his 29-year-old wife, threatening to kill her. According to the Manitowoc Police Department report: Police were called to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. The woman told police that her husband had come home intoxicated and they began having an argument about his drinking and about money. They began pushing one another and she struck him twice in the face. The man retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun and pointed it at her, placing it against her forehead and mouth. “I’m going to kill you and then I will kill myself,” he told her. He then got an eight-inch kitchen knife and threatened her, placing it against her throat and rubbing the blade against her right forearm. He stabbed the knife into the wall behind her head. She said she was afraid for her life. When he went to the upstairs of the home, she went to get help. He eventually came out, without the shotgun, and was taken into custody. The shotgun was later found in the living room, unloaded. Three 12-gauge shotgun shells were found in the kitchen. He told police he is a former U.S. Marine and suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome. He said that “she became the enemy and he was the killer.” He said he had flashbacks and felt he was back in Afghanistan. The suspect said he never pointed the shotgun directly at his wife and denied threatening her with a knife. He is accused of breaking her cellphone, their home surveillance system as well as windows and drywall in the house. The man was arrested for first-degree reckless endangerment, pointing a firearm at another person, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and domestic violence-related offenses of damage to property and disorderly conduct.
