MAROONS WIN 4 - 3 !!!!! Sarnia Arena Thu, Nov 06, 2014 Story by Narrative Science. The Chatham Maroons gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Sarnia Legionnaires. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Brayden Hopkinss goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Jared Dennis was all over the ice for Chatham, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Dennis scored the first of his two goals at 1:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Brennan Feasey picked up the assist. Dennis next tally made the score 3-2 Chatham with 13:58 left in the second period. Steven Beenackers provided the assist. Sarnias power play was ineffective against the Maroons penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Chatham forced the Legionnaires goalie Hunter Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Chatham additionally got points from Hopkins, who also had one goal and one assist. Trevor Richardson also scored for Chatham. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Brett Storr and Alexander Morgan, who contributed one each. Sarnia was held below its usual level of production. The Legionnaires put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. Sarnia was helped by Riley Babkirk, who registered one goal. Babkirk scored 18:55 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Jay Clarke and Cody Trowell, who scored one goal each. More assists for Sarnia came via Jake O`Donnell, who had two and Nathan Mater, Davis Boyer, and Riley Roberts, who each chipped in one. Bo Bessette made 22 saves for the Maroons on 25 shots. Chatham incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Levesque was ejected from the game. The Legionnaires Johnson stopped 35 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
