MEMORIES: If you missed first 15 years of rural life, you missed a lot. In lower classes, waking up late and running to school in a trouser you peed on, forgetting a bag of two sliced books, hiding in the bush to deal with jiggers politely because mother would force them out as you cry, turning a T-shirt into a bag to carry 50 raw guavas or stones to chase boys who climbed your fathers mango trees, swimming whole afternoon not remembering that you were to take tins of maize to the mill. Homework was done in class so mat/bed time came early since TV was in a text book and radio was in Swahili. You still became position 1 in class and gifted a pencil.
