MESSAGE RECEIVED BY LATROBE CITY COUNCILLORS late today: We have two issues at the Jill St Morwell Road Rehabilitation Project. Variation 1 - $x,xxx.xx. To avoid clashing with an undocumented redundant gas main, two additional grated side entry pits are required to be constructed. This variation can be signed off by the CEO under delegation. Variation 2 - $x,xxx.xx. An existing storm water pit requires reconstruction due to its existing condition and location. This additional expenditure puts the total variations over $5,000 and as such will require Council approval. We have rescheduled elements of the project to try and limit the impact on delivery, but there may be delay costs claimed by the contractor. Not constructing the pit as stated in Variation 2 will also mean there is a hole left in the nature strip which may be an OH&S issue. I will ensure the site is secured as well as possible. Leaving the hole for an extended period of time may also impact the subgrade which will incur additional costs. The report presented to the 6 November Council meeting for consideration will outline all costs associated with the variation.
