MINIMUM WAGE JOBS ARE ONLY WORTH $7.25... and other absurdities....Its not surprising that big business leaders make such claims...they have a vested interest in doing so..They even fund authentic sounding groups like the Heritage Foundation to give their greedy position a semblance of scholarly credibility. What makes me want to just slap someone..is when I hear some regular person who has lived in similar circumstances as I..who have by the grace of God...had a comfortable living at a decent wage...parrot the same stupidity. Central to their philosophy...is the premise that the precious market sets wages fairly..and that if you want to get ahead and make more...you have to work smarter..or harder. Lets go with smarter. Explain then why so many college graduates are working in these so called entry level jobs? Explain why so many of the ones who followed the conventional wisdom of training for the the new information age technology..are having such a tough time too? Work harder? Ever worked at a piece rate job? Theres the classic work harder...earn more environment. The problem..as anyone with experience can attest..is that if you exceed the standard by much..or too often..it goes up..Now..youre EXPECTED to bust your butt and work much harder..but for the same money! In the disparate power structure that exists between any single non-union employee and an employer..it is an absolute certainty that your wages will never exceed what it costs to keep you (or someone else deemed at least moderately as capable and reliable) on the job. You might be creating 10 times the value of your labor...but that counts for nothing in a capitalist economy with high unemployment. Now...how concerned do you think guys like Boeher, McConnell, and Ryan..REALLY are about high unemployment? Think they really want to create jobs?
