MMD to Convene NEC Today The Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) party is convening a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today to discuss among other items the expulsion of its two Vice Presidents. A source from within the NEC has told Zambia Reports in an interview that NEC will discuss the expulsion of MMD Vice President for Political Affairs Dr. Michael Kaingu and Vice President Administration Dr. Brian Chituwo. Others facing possible expulsion are Chairperson for Information Dora Siliya, Chairman for Tourism Lucky Mulusa, and National Youth Secretary Tobias Kafumukache – considered by some to be the “brain trust” of the party. “We are having a NEC meeting tomorrow to discuss among other items the expulsion of the five following the High Court ruling Friday May,30 2014 that an injunction served on MMD Deputy National Secretary Chembe Nyangu stopping the election of Muhabi Lungu as National secretary was wrongly served as it was served on a Sunday,” the source said. The source said however the NEC is divided on the impending expulsion as other members are of the idea of just stripping the five of their NEC positions but leaving them as ordinary members. “We are divided. Others are saying let us expel them while others like me are of the idea of just stripping them their positions,” the source said. Further, the source said the MMD NEC may also discuss the idea of freezing the position of Vice President in the party. “We may also discuss the quashing of the position of Vice President of the party. Anyway I do not know the out come but the majority win,” the source said. zambiareports/2014/05/31/mmd-convene-nec-today/
