MONYWA Monywa, is located in Central Myanmar, Sagaing Division, 136 km northwest of Mandalay on the eastern bank of Chindwin river. You can reach Monywa from Mandalay by three hour trip in a car and you will to pass through Sagaing bridge and Sagaing during the trip. There are many places of attractions in the area and one of the interesting places near the town is Phoewindaung caves where visitors can observe stone carvings and mural paintings spreading all over the caves. Thanbuday pagoda is another major attraction of Monywa and the most wonderful thing about the pagoda is that the solid section of the monument is engraved into numerous caves and 7350 relics and other holy items can be found in small engraved caves. Bodhi-tahtaung (1000 Buddhas), is a place of a group of banyan trees with a Buddha image at each of the feet of Banyan trees. The place is another attraction which most tourists should not miss during their visit to Monywa. Being able to enjoy one-thousand banyan trees with Buddha images all in one place is a moment you will never forget. Please read more in my next letter.
