MOVIE REVIEW - LAST VEGAS Release Date: 6/2/14 Rating: M Director: Jon Turteltaub Stars: Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro & Mary Steenburgen Run Time: 105 min’s Trailer: bit.ly/1cOxBEL Score (out of 10): 3 Well we can all stop stressing now. I mean the question movie-goers have been asking since the dawn of time has finally been answered … “just how bad would a senior’s version of The Hangover be??” We see Paddy (De Niro), Sam (Kline), Archie (Freeman) & Billy (Douglas) as teenage friends in a brief prologue. And then it’s on to current day where the 1st three are leading quiet, retired lives; contrasting somewhat with Billy’s Malibu playboy lifestyle. But even Billy’s realised it’s time to settle down … naturally with a hot young 32 y.o. So the four meet up in Vegas for a buck’s party; & it’s from here that no ‘old person’ joke is left unattempted!! Don’t get me wrong, I did have a few laughs, but this is such lazy film-making. If director Turteltaub (the National Treasure flicks) had focussed a little more on story & less on fulfilling what felt like a studio requirement of at least 14 oldie jokes per minute, then this flick might have scored higher. I get that everyone has bills to pay; but these four as well as Steenburgen (forming the 3rd point of a Paddy/Billy love triangle) deserve much better material than this stinker.
