MPD Officer Gets Caught Shopping on Duty......BUT THIS SHOPPING SPREE WILL LEAVE YOU SMILING!! I received this photo from a citizen so I decided to follow up on the details- this is what I found. Yesterday, while on routine patrol in the area of Dee and Colonial, Officer Daniel Verhine of Mt. Moriah Station decided to stop and check out a table that was set up on the side of the road by one 4-year-old little girl and an 8-year-old boy. Officer Verhine saw that these children were selling books and miscellaneous items. Not having any cash on him, Officer Verhine made a quick trip to the ATM and returned to help these young kids out by purchasing a book. Verhine noticed that the children were also including a FREE frosty coupon for Wendy’s with his purchase leaving him with a smile of appreciation for the rest of the day. “Reaching out to the community and engaging with our youth is one reason I became a police officer,” said Officer Verhine. Officer Verhine apparently couldn’t keep these children off his mind so today he returned to their location with a few items of his own…..he took both the children a frosty from Wendy’s to enjoy and each a backpack with markers, colored pencils, notebook paper, crayons, etc. “Officers such as Officer Verhine are the majority of our officers on the Memphis Police Department. They go over and beyond their call of duty because they want to. They want to make a difference and they want that connection with our community,” said Director Toney Armstrong. Great job MPD and thank you to the citizen who sent in the original photo!
