MSV Life – Div 1 Wk 13 by Liliana Said The top 4 teams had direct encounters this week as Fina had to play against Okmalta, while Ramis played against Royal Shock. Fina vs okmalta was the focal point of the week and all eyes were on them. Okmalta won the first match 770-750, but then had a bad 2nd game (677). Fina did not bowl so good either but their 706 game was enough to see them win 2 points. Both teams bowled much better during the 3rd game but Fina won the game bowling the highest game of the night (862), to win 6 points retain the top spot with a 6 point advantage, while okmalta has dropped to third place. Kenneth Arpa (bowler of the week) was the best for Fina (622), while Dennis Mercieca was the best for OK (593). Although they were the 2nd best team of the night Ramis lost two valuable points against Royal Shock, the latter literally stealing Ramis’ thunder in the last frame and nipping the game by 4 pins. Ramis however did not give up, bowling an 807 game to trash the Shockers by over a 100 pins, and although they dipped to a lower 721 during game three it was more than enough to supersede Royal Shock’s shocking 635 game which was the lowest for the night! Ramis beat Royal Shock by a good 195 pins, literally squashing their hopes of making it with the top 3. The former have now leapfrogged okmalta up to 2nd place, and 6 points behind Fina. Clive Farrugia (513) and Mark Spiteri (578) were the best players for Royal Shock and Ramis respectively. St. James Hospital made a huge step towards safety this week, beating HEP 02 8-0 to step away from the penultimate position. Taking into consideration that they have thrown away 16 points when they failed to show up twice for their league fixtures, they are doing extremely well. SJH were the 3rd best team for the night. They had two 800+ games and although they performed badly during the 2nd game, their 670 effort was enough to beat Hepo’s 641. High man for SJH was Ernest Agius (554), while Sammy Borg bowled a good 551 for HEP 02. Bowlers on Strike won full points against MIA to move away steadfastly from the relegation zone with a 22 point clearance. All games were very close, the 1st by 4 pins, the 2nd by 22 pins, and the 3rd by 24 pins, but BOS improved stealthily each game 702 and 716, then finishing off with a decent 783 game. While BOS are safe, MIA dipped to the bottom position, tied with Gladiators but with better pinfall. Top bowlers for BOS was Stephanie Said shooting a good 549 series, while Steve Cassar was one of three bowlers who bowled a 600+ series for the night. The worst team of the night was Gladiators and they lost all points against Turu’s Knights. Turu’s started with a good 768 against the Glads’ 693. The 2nd game was a nail biter, but a couple of silly misses meant Gladiators handed the game away on a silver platter. Although plunging to a 710 game, Turu’s still managed to win the last game, managing to overtake HEP 02 in the standings with tied points but better pinfall. Melissa Swift (bowler of the week) was the best bowler for Turu’s, while Jean Marc’s 508 was the best for Gladiators who are stuck in the last position. Bowlers of the week: Kenneth Arpa (Fina – 622) and Melissa Swift (Turu’s Knights – 582) 1. Fina – 84 2. Ramis – 78 3. Okmalta – 76 4. Royal Shock – 70 5. Turu’s Knights– 50 6. HEP 02 – 50 7. Bowlers on Strike – 42 8. St. James Hospital – 26 9. MIA – 20 10. Gladiators - 20
