MUCHEA LIVESTOCK CENTRE CATTLE SALE 8 JULY 2013 Numbers more than doubled with pastoral regions able to consign cattle. Quality was very mixed with many of the pastoral drafts in store condition. Local supply was limited with very few well finished trade weight cattle. Better bred cattle, both pastoral and local found solid feeder and restocker support to be firm to dearer with poor quality drafts discounted. Cow prices eased marginally for light and medium weights with better heavier cows fully firm. Trade local steers sold to dearer prices driven by low numbers. Light trade steers made from 165c to 230c/kg with medium and heavy drafts from 169c to 205c, up to 6c/kg dearer for the grain assisted drafts. Trade heifers sold at dearer prices, with light weights from 185c to 201c/kg. Medium and heavy trade heifers made from 145c to 208c, up by at least 15c/kg for the majority of supplementary fed drafts. Pastoral drafts to trade buyers made from 129c to 140c/kg. Light weight local steers to feeders and restockers made from 140c to 215c with the better muscled drafts from 180c to 201c, up by at least 10c/kg. Medium and heavy weights made from 154c to 194c, with better bred drafts 5c/kg dearer. Well-bred pastoral steer drafts made from 168c to 179c with plain drafts from 100c to 145c/kg. Heifer sales were mixed with good local drafts from 160c to 175c and better pastoral bred heifers made from 130c to 150c/kg. Grown steer categories were generally cheaper, selling from 100c to 154c/kg. Better export weight steers, 500kg to 600kg, remained close to firm averaging 148c/kg. Grown heifers sales contracted by up to 20c/kg. Heavy local heifers made from 135c to 151c, to average 142c, back 19c/kg. Most pastoral drafts sold between 90c and 140c, to average 2c/kg cheaper. Cow sales were dominated by light and medium weight pastoral cattle, many being of plain quality. Light pastoral cows were up to 5c cheaper, with most sales from 80c to 123c/kg. Medium weight cows made from 115c to 134c, to be 2c to 3c/kg cheaper. Heavy cows sold from 107c to 136c/kg, to be mostly firm. Bull prices slipped for the majority with heavy bulls firm to 1c/kg cheaper. Medium and light bulls eased by around 10c, with light weight live export bulls from 140c to 200c/kg.
