We will enter via Little Giant Pass & exit via Buck Creek Pass. The views and wildflowers should be spectacular. Approximately 27 miles with 6,800’ elevation gain. Thursday, August 8 to Sunday, August 11 What & Where: Backpacking, Cutthroat Pass Where’s That & Map? North Cascades, Green Trails Map Washington Pass Leader: David Hagen, 965-3697 Departure Time & Place: Contact leader for details Notes: We will hike the PCT north from Rainy Pass in the North Cascades to Cutthroat Pass. David plans on camping near the pass & using snowmelt as a water source. The views will be spectacular. We will car camp near the trailhead Thursday afternoon & hike in on Friday. If we arrive in time, we may day hike to Cutthroat Lake (2 miles, 500’ gain) on Thursday afternoon. Approximately 5 ½ miles with 2,000’ elevation gain. Party limit 4 tents. Saturday, August 10 to Sunday, August 11 What & Where: Trail Maintenance, Swamp Lake Trail Where’s That & Map? The planks have been brought on site by the Back Country Horseman and the trees will be cut near the site for the stringers and supports. It may require carrying in some tools and fasteners. If anyone wants to work one day or the other, they are welcome to work for one day. Work will be approximately 3 miles from trailhead. Oregon, Maps not provided Leader: Ron Graham, 966-6480 Departure Time & Place: Contact leader for details Notes: This year’s trip will be on the south side of Mt. Hood. There will be five to six days of hiking on the mountain slopes. The group will be based at Mt. Hood Village Resort on Highway 26, which offers RV hook-up sites as well as cabins. It will be necessary to make earlier reservations than usual. Call 503-622-4011. Request sites or cabins in the Fern Crest section of the park. Cost is $250/week for RV, $63/night for rustic cabins (1-4 persons). Must contact leader to sign up. There will be spectacular views of the main body of the Goat Rocks and there may still be fields of wildflowers in bloom. If the North Fork Tieton road has not been repaired, an alternative destination will be planned. Call the leader for details. Approximately 8 miles with 2,900’ elevation gain. Party limit 4 tents.
