MURCHFIELD HALL COMMUNITY CINEMA Newsletter: September - TopicsExpress

MURCHFIELD HALL COMMUNITY CINEMA Newsletter: September 2013 Murchfield Hall Community Cinema was established by the Management Committee of Murchfield Community Association (the charity that runs Murchfield Community Hall in Dinas Powys) and is run by volunteers. New volunteers are always welcome, just ask on the night. We are a non-commercial organization, with any profits going towards hall improvements. Our film distributer is Moviola, who specialise in Community Cinema. We are very grateful to Creative Rural Communities for providing the cinema equipment and helping on film nights. All our films are shown on Saturday evenings (usually the 2nd Saturday of the month). Doors open 7pm for a showtime of 7.30pm. Refreshments (hot/cold drinks and biscuits) are served before the film. There’s also usually some complimentary cinema-flavour popcorn! Here is our Autumn 2013 programme (with the season programme included as an attachment): Sat 12 October ROBOT AND FRANK (12A) 90 mins. Do you have trouble coping with new technology? Spare a thought for Frank – his home-help is a robot! However, in this comedy set in the near-future, Frank is a retired jewel-thief and he finds out that his new robot buddy may have more uses than just cleaning the dishes! Frank Langella is excellent as Frank in this funny film that has a surprisingly moving conclusion. The supporting cast includes Susan Sarandon, Liv Tyler and James Marsden, with Peter Sarsgaard voicing the robot. At every screening we have a prize draw. One of the prizes at this screening will be a DVD copy of Frost/Nixon, which also has an acclaimed performance by Frank Langella (as Richard Nixon). We also hope to re-show the Dinas Powys Pictures slide-show, from door opening time, before the screening. Sat 9 Nov THE GREAT GATSBY (12A) 142 mins. Bring your own cocktails, champagne or wine, and we’ll party like it’s 1922 (or around 7.30pm anyhow!). Sit back and luxuriate in director Baz Luhrmann’s spectacular take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. A great cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire. Sat 7 Dec BEHIND THE CANDELABRA (15) 118 mins. We hope to have some live piano playing before this screening of Steven Soderbergh’s eye-opening film about the private life of Liberace. The film stars Michael Douglas as the flamboyant cabaret pianist and Matt Damon as his young lover/chauffeur Scott Thorson, on whose book the screenplay is based. Please be advised: there is some pretty explicit content in this movie. See you at the cinema this autumn! Steve Nottingham, on behalf of Murchfield Hall Community Cinema, Murchfield Community Centre, Sunnycroft Lane, Dina Powys, Vale of Glamorgan CF64 4QQ.
