MUSIC MASHUP TOM PETTY and JEFF LYNNE have been given songwriting credit for SAM SMITHs Stay With Me, because it sounds like Pettys 1989 song I Wont Back Down, which they wrote. The writers of Stay With Me claim they werent familiar with the Petty song when they wrote it, but they gave in without a fight because they realized the songs were similar. Petty and Lynne now have a 25% songwriting credit (12.5% each) which means they also get a cut of the royalties. Save Up!!!
