Mad men are not in the business of introspection and prophesying - TopicsExpress

Mad men are not in the business of introspection and prophesying but suddenly out of the blue a query by a dear friend made the mad man stop in his tracks! What would the mad man want his last words to be in case if he were to suddenly depart from this world? Such thoughts of mortality do not cross our minds often, do they? I dare say, No! There is this some false notion that we all hold which makes us believe that this life will never end.......but end it will for sure! Now coming back to the original query which made this mad man think for a while.....and after some reflection the following most beautiful lines came to my mind, If I, if I have been unkind, I hope that you can just let it go by. If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you. The above lines are from the most beautifully penned song by Leonard Cohen called, A bird of the wire, he recorded this song in 1968 and this song was later translated into French by Serge Lama who beautifully rendered his French version in 1971, Vivre Tout Seul There are numerous versions of the above song but the following is my favourite version in which Leonard has incorporated the French lyrics into his original song as well. So dear friends and strangers if you were one day to suddenly hear of this mad mans sudden demise then do not wonder what this mad mans last words would have been, you know them now.....Au Revoir! Rab Rakha :-) The original songs lyrics are as follows: Like a bird on the wire, Like a drunk in a midnight choir I have tried in my way to be free. Like a worm on a hook, Like a knight from some old fashioned book I have saved all my ribbons for thee. If I, if I have been unkind, I hope that you can just let it go by. If I, if I have been untrue I hope you know it was never to you. Like a baby, stillborn, Like a beast with his horn I have torn everyone who reached out for me. But I swear by this song And by all that I have done wrong I will make it all up to thee. I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch, He said to me, You must not ask for so much. And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door, She cried to me, Hey, why not ask for more? Oh like a bird on the wire, Like a drunk in a midnight choir have tried in my way to be free...............:-)
