Madhavin to introduce Baseball in Kakira! Madhvani Family, one of the biggest investment groups in the country and East Africa region is set to venture into baseball. This comes after the fastest growing sport in Uganda was introduced in Kakira, Jinja on Saturday an area where the group owns the biggest sugar factory. Mayur Madhvani, one of the group’s joint Managing directors is optimistic about the development of the sport in the region. “Our expectations are high and we shall want results after the growth of this new sport here (Kakira),” he said. “The company will provide all the necessary equipment and logistics to see the sport advance and teams excel.” The Madhvani family was challenged by what Metha Lugazi Little baseball team achieved in America and decided to pick interest in the sport and to nurture its own team as well. The Metha Lugazi youthful side made history as the second African team to qualify for the World little baseball series. They were still the first from the continent to make a trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania where they beat a team from Oregon in a consolation game 3-2. However, Madhvani is hopeful the young ones who lost 5-0 in an exhibition match against Sharing Nsambya have a big opportunity to show case there talent. “Baseball is an important sport and can take you places in the world. So this is an opportunity for you (Kakira baseball club) to use this chance,” urged Madhvani. Eight primary schools will form a mini league to compete and out of the league, the best youngsters will be chosen to represent kakira in the National baseball League with time to come.....
