Mahaut at Sonoma Coastal EquesTraining Center during her first - TopicsExpress

Mahaut at Sonoma Coastal EquesTraining Center during her first TTOUCH course session with Kathleen Aspenns. This is towards the end of the day and you can see Mahauts light hand on the lead rope and her soft focus on the horse she is leading who is allowed to look around and process information at its own pace. Mahaut is quietly deliberate with her own body and actions, she has a calming, steadying influence on the mare she is working with. Note that Mahaut is a visiting French teenager and this was her very first experience with TTOUCH groundwork. She did very well :-) I used these pics to show that the chain lead can and should be used lightly. Its benefit from a TTOUCH standpoint is simply that it is a little more weighed then the Zephyr line and it encourages a horse to lower the head. Outside of that very slight difference, the use of the leads is identical. The holding of the lead is similar. The philosophy of handling is one and the same. Adding fear, aggressivity, dominance to a lead chain is a recipe for problems but if like Mahaut the handler is calmly confident it is a very good tool to have in your toolkit. M
