Major victory for the human-animal bond, standing up for the elderly and disabled today. Based on the lawsuit we were forced to file, a judge conducted an evidentiary hearing in which Almost Home Adoptions President Kathleen Cline testified that she never agreed to foster/board Karen Schultzs cats and believed AHA owned them after the Aurora shelter gave them the cats. Remember the pictures of the day we were all there doing the transfer? Me, Karen, Kathleen, Tannessa etc working together to save the lives of the 41 Karen had to surrender and not leaving the five behind until we could find boarding?? She took the five cats based entirely on Kathleens promise to me that she would take care of the five until we passed inspection. Kathleen could not remember that 6 of the cats were in separate cages with big notes on their cages saying they were to stay (one of the cats was to go to Cat Care Society but we didnt want her to be left alone at the shelter, so we told AHA to take her too). I lent AHA two of my carriers when they ran out and said it was ok, Id get them back when we picked up the five they were fostering. I could not testify about the conversations Kathleen and I had when she agreed to foster the cats because Im Karens attorney so I just had to cross examine Kathleen and remind her that she was under oath. Her testimony was completely contradictory to the facts. Aurora Shelters staff testified that AHA was instructed while they were picking up the cats that the five cats were Karens and that they were being transferred to AHA as a foster/boarder until her house passed inspection. The judge didnt even have us present most of our evidence because based on that testimony, the exhibits we tendered and the Aurora city attorneys testimony, the court concluded that Karen never gave up ownership of those five cats and that AHA did not become the owner based on picking the cats up at the shelter. We will be picking up Karens five cats tomorrow. It has been a long, unnecessary battle. Think of how much good I couldve been doing for people instead of having to waste my time on this frivolous fight. They hoped Id abandon Karen. I told them I never would and I wouldnt rest until she had her cats back. Because when I promise to help someone I dont ditch them when the going gets hard.
