Making felt with year 6 at Gwynneville School on Friday 9th - TopicsExpress

Making felt with year 6 at Gwynneville School on Friday 9th August. By Emma Mackintosh and Ruby Thompson Felting is a great but difficult task, luckily we had Simone to come and help us make felt balls! We would like to thank the Illawarra Feltmakers for providing our very much needed merino wool. We started with small bunches of raw wool that was then placed in a stocking, tied at each end and went in the wash for two cycles. Simone then showed us how to correctly wrap the wool around the balls. The most exciting bit of all was to work outside in the sun. We dipped the covered wool balls into hot water, and then lathered them with soap, pushing down hardly, then massaging onto bubble wrap. The finished felt ball was like a tennis ball - the bounce and firmness. Our finished felt balls were washed in cold water and put on a tray to dry. We all will remember making felt balls. This is what some of us said: Sophie - I believe making felt was an interesting and fun experience though I have never done this before. Alex - A long, relaxing process. Sam - It was really fun! Sarah - Awesomely cool and fun. Brodee - Takes time but turns out great!
