Makki Masjid is currently working on an ambitious and visionary expansion project to create a purpose built Masjid at the heart of the Muslim community in Manchester; for Muslim brothers and sisters, families, the elderly, mothers, fathers, the youth, our children and all those in the wider community. We aim to provide a sanctuary for prayer and knowledge that will preserve the Islamic identity, encompass the true beauty of Islam and unite us to attain success and goodness. In our multicultural, multiracial and predominantly non-Muslim society, Makki Masjid aspires to lead as an exemplar place of worship and learning and hopes to help remove the misrepresented image of Islam in our society.. Since its foundation in 1989 the mosque has undoubtedly become an invaluable centre of worship and activity, with an important role in uniting and serving the community. Makki Masjid has not only provided a prayer facility but has become a well known place of learning in Manchester. Its study circles are delivered by proficient teachers for men, women, youth, and also non-Muslims interested in learning about Islam.. However, it has long been felt that the current facilities of the Masjid are inadequate to allow further development of ideas and services that are much needed for our community. Therefore a project to create a modern purpose-built mosque has been launched to help us meet the changing needs of the community and its new generations. This new building will act not only as a place of prayer, but will become an asset and focal point for the whole community, bringing together young and old, men and women.. Insha’Allah, the proposed plans for expansion as well as providing outstanding praying facilities for men and women will also include: . A Recreational area for youths/children Classrooms for supplementary education A Car park Mortuary and washing facility for the deceased A Community hall, cafeteria and catering facilities Day centre for the elderly A Library and a resource centre for local schools and colleges Improved Wudu facilities Seminar/conferencing facilities The project is estimated to cost £2.5 million.
