Mama Vent- This is kind of a rant/venting thing for me. I work in the fitting rooms at a store and I have mothers frequently ask me if I can let them use a room to nurse in which I always give them the biggest room. Today A mother asked me if she could nurse in the room and after I let her in one of my co-workers started saying some really negative things about women nursing in public and how they should have a chair in the bathroom and NIP is against the law (which it isnt here in this state) and disgusting ect... She also went on to say that me letting mothers nurse in the fitting room was a waste of space and I shouldnt and couldnt allow it to continue. After I defended a mothers right to nurse when and where she pleased she started telling me that my kids should be taken away because Im on state assistance (we get medical and food stamps and both my husband and I work. hes full time and Im part time.) and the government has every right to tell me how to raise my children and I shouldnt be allowed to have any more kids... I was SO hurt and offended by her actions I actually cried and went to management to file a formal complaint and had the customer do the same because she was also very offended by what my co-worker was saying. I just cried in front of two of my bosses because of the hurtful things this person said. I gave the customer a piece of paper with this site written on it and advised her to join and told her how awesome and supportive you guys are. Im sorry for the long vent but I just had to expose the close-mindedness that we have to face and let others know that even though peoples words will hurt and we might get hurt for standing up for our rights as parents, if we dont stand up for ourselves... no one will..
