Manna Jo Greene is life-long community activist working for peace, justice, and environmental protection. Formerly the Recycling Coordinator/Educator for Ulster County for more than ten years, and a Registered Nurse since 1976, Greene avidly supports collaborative land use planning and problem-solving. Working to promote sustainable agriculture, green building and renewable energy, she recently completed a Deep Energy Retrofit on her home in Cottekill with funding from a NYSERDA grant and the Green Job/Green NY on-bill payment program. Trained in The Natural Step, a sustainability methodology for businesses and institutions, Manna teaches communities how to balance environmental preservation, economic prosperity (based on quality of life), and social equity using effective communication. While working hard to clean up Hudson River PCBs, close the aging Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant and to protect the ecology of the Hudson River and well-being of all living in its watershed, she spends equal time promoting the transition to a Green Energy Economy, hoping the Hudson Valley will lead the way by modeling this change in NY State.
