Many people are called as "Father of Sponge Iron - Mr.M.Ramachandran " and member of Founder -SIIL -Sponge Iron India Ltd. He is very Charming, Smiling, simple and Energetic person. Mr. M. Ramachandran,. He was one of the Founder Members of the Sponge Iron India Ltd (SIIL)-Paloncha, Andhra Pradesh. SIIL was the first Sponge Iron Plant in the Country, set up by the Ministry of Steel and Mines, Government of India, in Technical Collaboration with M/s. Lurgi, Germany and with the assistance of UNIDO /UNDP in the year 1978 – 1980, to demonstrate the suitability of Indian Raw Materials (Iron Ores and Coals) for the manufacturer of Sponge Iron and the absorbability of the Technical Know-how (Direct Reduction Process). It was only at SIIL it was demonstrated the use of 100% Coal instead of 70% Coal and 30% Oil continuously in the processes of Sponge Iron making. The successful demonstration of Technical and commercial viability of DR Process in this Organisation, paved the way for the unprecedented growth of Sponge Iron in our Country. Mr. M. Ramachandran was deputed to M/s. Lurgi`s House Germany for a detailed study of the Process Parameters and the Design features of the Plant and Machineries pertaining to Mineral Processing(Iron Ore Beneficiation and Pellatisation) followed by the class room learning and the Pilot Plant observation. In continuation of the Class Room Learning and interaction, he was imparted “on – the –Job Training in the Lurgi`s Plants. He was associated with the Corporate bodies like M/s. Tamilnadu Steel Ltd. TN, M/s. Sponge Iron India Ltd, Paloncha, A.P, M/s. Bihar Sponge Iron Ltd, Chandil, Jamshedpur, 1 x 500 TPD Sponge Iron Plant, M/s. Gold Star & Alloys Ltd, Visakhapatnam , M/s. Nova Iron & Steel Ltd, Bilaspur, in Designing, Engineering, Project Implementation, Operation and Maintenance, Quality Control, Materials Management and Personnel & Administration for over 3 Decades, where he had served and learnt not only the Intricacies of the Technical, Managerial and Commercial aspects of Building an Industry but also successfully Running an Organisation. He had also visited various Countries like Brazil, Czechoslovakia under UNIDO Fellowship for on – the Job Training and Study of various Design and Operating Features of Mineral Processing- Iron Ore Beneficiation and Pellatisation, Direct Reduction and Steel making.After serving more than 36 yrs in the Iron & Steel Industry and for over 14 yrs as whole time Director of M/s. Nova Iron & Steel Limited, a major Iron & Steel Company, he choose to establish an Engineering and Management Consultancy Firm under the Name and Style of “Industrial Projects and Services” to offer the Design, Engineering and Management Services and also for setting up of Iron, Steel and Power Plants. Through IPS he has set up number of Plants and many Plants are under various stages of construction.
