Many women are rooted in the idea that they want a protective - TopicsExpress

Many women are rooted in the idea that they want a protective male, but then long for him to be more vulnerable. This is confusing for many men, and also for many women. For me, these differing longings are a perfect reflection of the gap between the world we have known and the world we are moving towards. In the world we have known, our identities and attractions are organized around survivalism- that is, we are attracted to that which keeps us safe- versus the next paradigm, which is organized around authenticity, that is, we are attracted to that which is more genuine and vulnerably true. Each paradigm leads to such different preferences. Until the culture itself is ready to shed its armor, can we bridge these polarities? And, until we bridge these polarities, can we expect the culture itself to change?
