March 14, 2014 Good Afternoon Friends, This week, the Senate approved the “Child Care and Development Block Grant Act” (S. 1086) by a vote of 96-2. This legislation provides subsidies to assist low-income families obtain child care so parents can work or participate in education or training activities. The Senate also passed the “Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act” (H.R. 3370), which was sponsored by Senator Menendez. This bill would lower premium increases that were mandated under the Flood Insurance Reform law of 2012. The Senate is not in session today or next week. We will return on Monday, March 24, 2014. Please note that a tentative deal was announced on Thursday to consider legislation to restore unemployment insurance when we return. As you may recall, unemployment benefits expired at the end of last year for millions of Americans. As always, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
