March 19): Although rain has been forecast for Selangor in the coming days, the water rationing exercise which was initiated on Feb 25 is set to continue until next week or much later. State Executive Councillor for Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment Elizabeth Wong said the water level at Sungai Selangor Dam stands at 39.7%, which is regarded as critical. Pointing out that this dam caters to about 60% of the residents of the Klang Valley, she said the current water level too low to end water rationing. It is still not enough...We have to replenish two months of rain (shortfall). We will assess the situation this week and next, she said after the weekly State Executive Council meeting. Wong said the water treatment plant in Cheras is back in operation after a one-month stop due to a high level of ammonia. Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, who was present at the press conference, said the state government will study if the monsoon season is in its active cycle before considering calling off the rationing exercise. He said a few dams in the state have reached 65% capacity. fz/content/water-rationing-continue-s%E2%80%99gor-despite-rain-forecast
