Mark Wheelers art above was featured in a story titled Someone Stole My Boat. A true saga involving the theft of my 44 charter vessel in 1980. The events to recover it (from a spot on the disputed international border in Dixon Entrance), find the criminals and finally put the thief in jail in Ketchikan was published in installments in the New Alaskan for nearly a year and a 1/2. It involved extradition of a Canadian citizen, a threatened suit against the state of Alaska for monies I had spent to charter aircraft to search for the vessel (the State Police, city police, harbormaster, and Coast Guard assumed I was just another drunken skipper when I reported the loss and in a merry-go-round manner referred me to all the others) ,court sessions in Canada and Ketchikan...my readers loved it. Like Don Quixote I did win in the end against the Black Knights of the Attorney Generals office. Righteousness and the rule of law prevailed. The power of the press won the day.
