Martin Place flowers removed Volunteers from Sydney including 12 members of the NSW Rural Fire Service locally spent the morning removing flowers from Martin Place. The dedicated members were bleary eyed when they woke before dawn and headed to Martin Place to remove the flowers before forecast rain. Despite some light showers they carefully and respectfully placed flowers into boxes, putting more delicate items in bubble wrap and collecting and collating cards for the victims families. Local volunteer Heather White had mixed emotions and said ‘her morning was filled with sadness, pride and honour’. Fellow volunteer Janne Sloane said her ‘heart was full of emotion’. NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said he was ‘proud to see all involved performing their roles in such a respectful and dignified manner’. The Premier said a more permanent memorial will be chosen in consultation with the families of the siege victims.
