Masruq reported: The Christians and the Muslims boasted to one another. Some of them said, “We are better than you.” The others said, “We are better than you.” So Allah the Exalted revealed the verse, “It will not be according to your wishful thinking, nor by that of the people of the Book.” (4:123) Source: Tafseer At-Tabari 9633, Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Islam Mansur Abdul Hameed Ibn Kathir said, “The religion is not based upon wishful thinking and mere hopes. Not everyone who claims something will achieve it because of his claim.
