Mass die-offs of the small, white-bellied gray birds known as Cassins aucklets have been reported all along the west coast. The Dept of Fish & Wildlife tell us the birds appear to be starving to death and researchers say it could be the result of a successful breeding season leaving less forage for older birds or a warmer, more acidic ocean could be affecting the supply of tiny zooplankton that the birds eat.
