Match Report - Monday Night League Kyles Elite 6 1 - 2 Shetland f.c. for all other reports go to super6s.co.uk Before kick off champions SHETLAND F.C knew that they had to win against inform KYLES ELITE 6 to have any chance of retaining their title, but despite overcoming Elite 2-1 and ending their five game winning streak, Shetlands title defence was declared over later in the evening after two of the three teams above them registered wins. It now means that the highest finish Shetland can achieve this season is third, whereas Kyles Elite will finish fifth regardless of results on the final week (next week). The last time these two teams met was back in February on week two when Shetland emerged from the game comfortable 6-0 winners, however this time around a much improved Kyles Elite were never going to be brushed aside so easily. They started brightly and went close through Banny (Elite), who was denied at point blank range by Shetland keeper Paul after a good move involving Jacko and Tom (both Elite) opened up the champs, before Elite captain Kyle then smashed his team ahead on six minutes with a great strike from distance that curled into the bottom corner after a nice team move. Kyle was the man of the match and joined in this weeks Dream Team by his keeper Kev (Elite) who had a good game. Elite almost doubled their lead when Ben (Elite) set up Banny moments after their opening goal, but Paul denied him with a good save to his left before the champs hit back, conjuring up their equalising goal on the twelfth minute. It came from their leading scorer Conner (Shet) who was picked out on the edge of the Elite box by Shetlands midfield maestro, Maccas sublime pass. Conner still had a lot to do but kept his cool as he flicked the ball to one side and rounded Kev, before slipping the ball into an empty net to make it 1-1. Elites response was swift. They went close through Kyles dangerous free kick that was tipped away by Paul, before goal scorer Conner turned provider when he set up Olly (Shet) with a fantastic pass, but Shetlands jet heeled winger put his shot the wrong side of Kevs post! As the half ended Macca saw his shot blocked by Jacko and Conner had a one on one opportunity snuffed out by Kevs leg after he came out quick to narrow the angle, before Banny then had a shot blocked by Shetland defender Aaron on the stroke of half-time. It was a tight game as anticipated. Banny had a low free kick charged down by Aaron early in the second half, before Dan J (Shet) picked the ball up in the Elite half and pressed forward with a positive run. As he advanced unchallenged he took up the invite to shoot and didnt disappoint, drilling a great, low right footed shot into the bottom corner. Conner almost made it 3-1 moments later when he cut inside from the left and let fly with a curling right footed effort. It looked as though the ball was about to find the top corner, but Kev did well to get across to his left and tip it away! Kyle and Ben both fired just wide for Elite as they went in search of an equaliser and Olly and Macca were both kept out by some excellent keeping from Kev after they went through one on one with the Elite keeper, before Paul then frustrated Banny at the other end in the dying seconds....bravely keeping out the powerful Elite striker with a part of the anatomy that isnt advisable! Whether he knew much about it or not it was a brave save from the Shetland keeper and helped secure another three points as the champs extended their winning run to four games on the bounce. They could end their season on a high next week by beating leaders Special Kebab who are one win away from taking their crown! Kyles Elite 6 also have a massive say in the title race (next week) because they take on second placed Seaside Misfits (who themselves will win the title if they win and Kebab slip up). Neither Kebab or Misfits will envy the task of having to beat Shetland or Elite in their final week thats for sure!
