Match Report Vs Glendale XI 10/08/2013 Halli welcomed bottom dogs Glendale X1 to Lawsondale for this afternoons league encounter. Halli were missing a number of players however had a 15 man squad on hand. Sct Marlow was in goal, N.Duncan, N.McDonald & Simpson at the back. Ellis, Wilson, K.Jaques. Young & S.Jaques in midfield behind front two Laing & Hunter. In reserve were S.Duncan, Howieson, Turner and King of the comebacks Brown. Halliburton were invited before kick-off to press the opposition and inside 2 minutes had fired in the first shot of the afternoon. An Ellis throw headed on by Young to Hunter who instantly smashed it just over the top. In 5 Laing rose well against a strong challenge to head on a long ball from keeper Sct Marlow, he found Wilson but took a thump in the face for his troubles. Wilson slammed in a powerful drive which was blocked away before play was halted to allow treatment to a bleeding Laing. A great start from Halli continued in 7 with a superb early ball into the visitors area from Wilson, keeper Gordon doing well to grasp it. In 12 the first test for Halli keeper Sct Marlow who was smartly down to take a low driven shot. He launched it up field and again it was Laing that got onto it, to chip the keeper who just got a hand to it and collected at the second attempt. In 19 Usain Bolt would have been impressed by the sprint from Hunter that saw him cross the entire width of the field to rob the defender and keeper who had come out to collect, he turned the keeper before squaring into Wilson who saw his shot blocked away. In 21 another long ball upfield from Sct Marlow was knocked onto S.Jaques from Laing, it fell awkwardly for him and he was unable to get any real purchase on his parting shot. Simpson did well to release K.Jaques in 25, he fed S.Jaques but his ball in was cleared. Halli’s pressure paid off in 26, when Young introduced himself to the game. A decent ball in from Ellis was half cleared and up sauntered Young to thump the loose ball low into the far corner 1-0. In 31 Laing got onto a ball to head goal wards under severe pressure from Gordon & Brown, the ball however squeezed past the post. A K.Jaques corner was met in the air by Young but it drifted wide, then in 40 slack defending from Halli let Glendale back into it. Halli failed to clear at the edge of the box before Ellis fouled some 25 yards from his goal. From the free kick visitor Rae absolutely smashed it home off the far post 1-1. With the kettle now boiling Halli regained the lead in great style. Laing sent Ellis up the line and he delivered a great ball into the area. Hunter timed his run perfectly to get in front of his man and head home from close range 2-1. (H.T.2-1). It was important we got the next goal, and had to continue to press. There was some dissatisfaction with how deep Young had been playing but in truth that was more down to his Friday night antics than the opposition taking the initiative. From the off however we handed Glendale an early opportunity. K.Jaques uncharacteristically slack lost possession, keeper Sct Marlow down at the feet of an attacker to keep his team in front. That however was pretty much it from Glendale, as Halli then went on to dominate the remainder of the game. We increased our lead in 50 and this one was all to do with K.Jaques tenacity. He won the ball in midfield to play in Wilson, he returned it, K.Jaques took it on, then slid into win on the edge of the box at the same time playing it into space for Ellis, who then produced an amazing finish ala Mark Hughes for Man U v Barcelona in the 1991 Cup Winner Cup Final. Tight angle is an understatement as Ellis tucked it away first time 3-1. In 58 it was 4. A throw in up the line was missed by a defender and Hunter showed his electric pace to get onto it, then tuck it under the advancing goalkeeper with his right foot 4-1. Glendale were now shell shocked and Halli went nap in 62 Hunter picking up the first of hopefully many Hat tricks for the club. Halli made a quick break up the right and when the ball was played inside to Hunter he slotted in with his left foot to complete the perfect hat trick. 5- 1. Laing had a low shot blocked in 65 then Glendale made a rare trip North into the Halli box, Sct Marlow collecting a snap shot easily. In 72 Howieson took over from Hunter who had taken a knock. K.Jaques went up top, Howieson into the middle. In 75 S.Jaques played a ball through for Wilson who wildly thundered a shot wide of the far post. In 80 S.Jaques threw the ball into Young. He did well to turn his man then from a tight angle hit the post. We won a corner which Young got onto only for Ellis to block it inside the 6 yard box. In 83 K.Jaques raced into the Glendale box and was upended. The ref blew for a penalty then sent off the defender. This upset the keeper who was also given his marching orders. With a defender now in goals, Laing sloppily struck the penalty straight at him, but was alert enough to get onto the rebound and chipped it home 6-1. His sloppiness was instantly rewarded when he was hooked for the more experienced S.Duncan, Halli also replaced Young with fitness fanatic Brown, who has employed a PT in search of the perfect body and a Stevie Gerrard like engine. Brown was soon tested when he found himself in a straight race in pursuit of a long ball forward from Glendales defence. He started well enough until he hit the wall, when he then went with the running on the spot approach which allowed his man to catch up and gain possession. Credit to Brown however he got his body in front of the visitor who couldn’t get round him. S.Jaques unselfishly played in sub S.Duncan but the hit man was caught in two minds undecided on whether to take a touch then shoot or to go for the full fierce volley. Indecision won the day when he did neither and simply passed it back to the Glendale keeper. (6-1). A good start then to the campaign, however we can expect stiffer opposition in future games. Both Turner & Howieson did well when introduced and wonderful to get a hat trick from new boy Hunter who looks like he could push for topscorer if this form continues. Brown looks almost ready to become involved but won’t be rushed and G.Fulton likewise could be back soon, but both need to nurse the injuries carefully. This afternoons visitors Glendale for their part, kept at it until the hour mark then the heads fell. Chris Wilson picked up the Halliburton Man of the match.
