Matt Pearce from the Tribune Newspapers had a article in the *Baltimore Sun* about the Yazidis in Iraq--and about those Yazidis who are now living in the Nebraska,USA. He began the article with: When they cook they weep, knowing their relatives in Iraq have nothing to eat. Apparently, Americas largest Yazidi community is in Lincoln, Nebraska. Yazidis are a religious minority and have been targeted by the Sunni militant group ISIS, which calls itself the Islamic State. (This Sunni militant group considers itself the one true representative of Islam.) The Yazidis religion is considered a pre-Islamic sect that draws from Christianity, Judaism, and the ancient monotheistic religion of Zoroastrianism. The Iraqi Yazidis could face genocide, according to President Obama, due to the Sunni militant group ISIS. Much nonsense has been written about the Yazidis (aka Yazidi Yezidi, Ezidi, Yazdani) by Muslims, Christians, and occultists...and I wouldnt pretend to know much about them myself--inspite of trying to learn more about them off and on over the years. However, many have equated their Peacock Angel (Tawuse Melek or Melek Taus) with the monothistic evil spirit, Satan, Shaytan, or Shaitan, the author of evil and the Adversary of the One True God. This misidentification by outsiders has incited centuries of persecution of the Yazidis as devil worshippers. Now Fundamentalist Sunni Muslim revolutionaries want to purify Iraq and neighboring countries of non-Islamic influences. (Eventually the Sunni militant group, which calls itself the Islamic State may wish to purify the world of non-Islamic influences.) I do know they have their own holy scriptures. One is known in English as the Book of Illumination and the other is known as the Yazidi Black Book. Heres a quote from an online article: Yazidis worship one God and honor seven angels. Unlike Muslims and Christians, they reject the idea of sin, the devil and hell itself. Many Muslims regard them as devil-worshippers because the Yazidis revere an angel who, their tradition holds, refused to obey God. religion.blogs.cnn/2014/08/08/who-are-the-yazidis-and-why-does-isis-want-to-kill-them/ ~ Myth Woodling (Please feel free to share my comments with others)
