Maybe CBS couldnt have hired a nicer guy. But they could have hired a woman, like Chelsea Handler, who would be awesome in mainstream latenight, and is available. Or they could have taken a risk with their later-at-night robot-and-puppet-wrangling, brilliant, Craig Ferguson, who deconstructs the late-night-talk paradigm in ways that nobody other than decades-ago-Letterman did before he got stale, other than perhaps Conan OBrien during his brief shot at the Tonight Show before Ultimate Scumbag Leno stole it back. Or they could have hired Conan.
