Maybe I Was Absent Or Was Listening Too Fast Catching All The Words But Then The Meaning Going Past Always fun to listen to your favorite lines in a song youve heard a million times before and perceive them in a whole new perspective. In this case, I always thought of it as him not grasping her words because he wasnt paying close enough attention and was trying to figure out the message she was sending to get some meaning out of it without actually being present at that moment (either mentally or physically or both) to do so. I still do. But today I was listening to the song, and the thought crossed my mind. What if it was the fact that she was from a completely different period of time in the past where the meaning of the words she was speaking mean something different than they do now, and he was absent because he wasnt there to witness it at that period in time? For the answer to that, one need look no further and watch the movie Breakfast At Tiffanys and Audrey Hepburn...from which the inspiration for this song transpired. But it can be about any girl the guy so chooses...or perhaps with a little switching around of the gender roles in the song if a female is listening to it, any guy the girl so chooses.
