Maybe Im being cynical but this sounds like a populist excuse for imposing ever more regulations and censorship over the Internet. Given the fact that the police services has been unable to stop industrial scale child abuse in the real world, what possible prospect is there that they will have more success exploring the dark net? The Government has had little success in persuading the British Public to give Big Brother more powers to stop terrorists. They are now having a go at using the paedophile scare to persuade us that they are restricting our liberties in our own good. I rather doubt whether, even in principle, they can succeed at controlling the internet in the way they propose. So I think this initiative is just a way to convince people that greater Government surveillance is a good thing. Will the paedophile networks of Rotherham and other British towns be stopped by this? Of course not!
