Maybe with the recent scrutiny of city-kept records pertaining to the carriage industry--and the serious problems that have been uncovered--tourists will take notice, decide to skip a carriage ride, and WALK instead. Here are a few violations that we reported on a few years ago. On Monday, a Manhattan Supreme Court judges order gave the NYPD 45 days to turn over records pertaining to carriage horses; also this week, an AP story reported on a carriage driver who is accused of altering the hoof number of a 22-year-old horse to make the horse appear to be a younger, healthier horse. The driver said he has sold the horse to a Pennsylvania farmer. Now the question is: Is Ceasar dead or alive? In December 2013, an NYC carriage driver was charged with animal cruelty in connection with a horse who was being forced to work with an injury and in spite of obvious pain. The horse, Blondie, was found to have thrush, which if not managed can lead to serious consequences. #carriagetruth
