Mayoral Candidate Erick Salgado to Join Press Conference On Court Judgment Against Local Law 129 Under Intro 911 - In Relation to Opportunities for Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprises & Emerging Business Enterprises in City Procurement Salgado to Criticize Mayor and City Council Over Illegal Local Law 129 Changes Erick Salgado, the only Latino in the Democratic Primary for Mayor, will join the criticism of proposed changes to Local Law 129 under Intro 911 that would cripple minority and women owned businesses as they seek to participate in municipal construction projects, Wednesday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. on the steps of Bronx Supreme Court, 161st Street and the Grand Concourse, the Bronx. The press conference is being held on the same day that there will be a motion, in Federal Court, to grant judgment against the City government’s default last Friday. Salgado will be joining the New York Hispanics in Real Estate and Construction Association, the New York State Coalition of Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, New York Professional Women in Construction, the African American Chamber of Commercial and the New York Real Estate Chamber, along with local, state and Federal public and elected officials, and business and civic leaders. This law is the Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprise Law that mandates City agencies set aside a percentage of contracts for women and minority groups. Salgado will urge the Mayor, Council Speaker and Council Committee on Contracts to increase the percentage of participation for minorities, as it should be and not as the (currently drafted) law dictates.
