Media Release 16 October 2013 Come and Join Smashing Times Free Storytelling Event at The MAC, Belfast! Saturday 26 October 10am-5.30pm Venue: The Rehearsal Space, Metropolitan Arts Centre, 10 Exchange Street, Belfast Smashing Times Theatre Company will host a Storytelling Happening, free of charge, on Saturday 26 October, 10am to 5.30pm at the Rehearsal Space, Metropolitan Arts Cenre, 10 Exchange Street, Belfast . This event is part of The Memory Project and is run by Smashing Times Theatre Company in partnership with Corrymeela Community and in association with CAIN (Conflict Archive on the Internet) and the University of Ulster INCORE International Conflict Research Institute. The project is funded through the EU’s PEACE III Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. Why not come along and enjoy this Storytelling Workshop which will be facilitated by Maria McBride. It is open to all (18+) including individuals, organisations, artists, community and youth leaders, teachers and all those interested in using the arts to work in community settings. Participants do not need to have any previous knowledge of drama. The Storytelling Happening uses the creative processes of theatre to explore and draw out experiences of people in Northern Ireland. The inter-active drama workshop provides an opportunity for those taking part to tell their stories and uses music, fun theatre games and exercises to allow participants to remember and share their memories of living in Belfast. The Happening aims to acknowledge participants’ different experiences and discuss their hopes and vision for their area. A section of the Storytelling Workshop will be recorded on film for inclusion in a television documentary. As part of The Memory Project, Smashing Times Theatre Company is making a television documentary showing how the creative processes of drama and theatre can be used to explore memories and experiences of conflict and to promote peace and non-violence.
