Medically, depression and mental illness is as life threatening as cancer. But our perception is completely different. We tell people to deal with it or get over it, its just a job. Two veterinarians, Dr. Sophia Yin and Dr. Shirley Koshi decided to end their lives last month. Dr.Sophia Yin was one of the most loved veterinarians and animal behaviourists who worked selflessly towards educating people on ethical treatment of animals during vet visits, recovery and mainly training. Little did everyone realise that she could be under such personal trauma. Dr. Shirley Koshi, a veterinarian based out of New York, also committed suicide because of all the internet hate and cyber bullying. All because she rescued a stray cat and someone claimed it to be theirs. Be kind to strangers. Think twice before passing that rude or inappropriate comment. Keep your judgement to yourself especially on social media. Because somewhere someone is getting hurt.
