Meet Andrew Hawkins. Andrew is a professional football player in the National Football League, playing for the Cleveland Browns in OHIO, USA. But first, and foremost, Andrew Hawkins is a Dad. We have all heard far too much about injustice in the United States, at the hands of those sworn to protect us against injustice. Andrew has heard it, too. In reaction to this, Andrew Hawkins wore a t-shirt onto the football field which read JUSTICE FOR TAMIR RICE AND JOHN CRAWFORD, two of the young black men who have lost their lives at the hands of police. In response to Hawkins t-shirt, the Cleveland Police Union demanded an apology, writing, Its pretty pathetic when athletes think they know the law. They should stick to what they know best on the field. The Cleveland Police protect and serve the Browns stadium, and the Browns organization owes us an apology. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men should do nothing.” Edmund Burke It could also be said that evil could triumph is good men, after doing something, take a step back. Andrew didnt step back. He stepped up. He spoke up; this time, with cameras and microphones at hand and he explained why each of us, regardless of our beliefs, needs to follow our hearts and our souls and speak out against whatever injustice we see in the world. He has reminded us that if we hope to have peace, we must act for peace. If we hope to have love, we must act with love. If we hope to have justice, we must behave in a just manner.
