Members of the California City Fire Department used a mock table top exercise to assist in preparing for this years wildland fire season. The scaled down exercise allows fire personnel to study fire behavior, fire weather, and the effects of topography on the vegetation. Firefighters set a small, smoldering fire on the prop, simulate fire suppression techniques and apply common fire suppression practices. Sand table mock exercises have been used for many years by fire agencies to provide training and experience to wildland firefighters.
