First, what a Liberal is NOT: • Poor • Black • Gay • Baby killer • Satan • Pothead • Marxist It is important to separate a party (Democratic) or a movement (Occupy) from the idea of liberalism. A liberal will vote for the candidate who will support liberal values. Those values include: • Equal opportunity for all • Expanded government • Income redistribution through taxation • Highly regulated markets • Enforced equality • Limited personal rights • A strong United Nations A Liberal believes that it is up to a strong central government to enact and enforce social change. A Liberal believes that only through national legislation can social ills, inequality and any other problems be effectively addressed. A Liberal believes the United States is a Democracy with power vested in a strong Federal government. Using our 44 ounce sugary drink analogy, a Liberal, upon finding out through a Government study that said drinks are bad for you, will want to enact legislation and delegate an agency to force people to stop drinking them.
